Monday, August 12, 2013 @ 7:00 p.m. (central) – Nanette Nelson of New Orleans expounds on the rise in urban, inner city, youth crime and what positive alternatives youth can engage in.

Founder and Executive Director Nanette L. Nelson oversee and coordinates the Loft. Nanette is an exceptionally energetic and enthusiastic leader. She projects a charisma that captures the imagination of students and demonstrates excellent classroom management skills. Her 12 years of experience with out of school time programs, coupled with her 13 year background of administrative educational work have equipped Nanette with the skills and hands on experience to create an environment that fosters successful learning. Nanette served as the Site Coordinator for After-school All-Stars, the leading out of school time program in San Jose, California; curriculum development and implementation were among her top priorities. She also served as Education Coordinator for Volunteers of America Light House Program in New Orleans, Louisiana. As a youth counselor, Nanette has served for several years with the YMCA, Boys and Girls Club, and New Orleans Recreational Department (NORD). Her education and training include one year at Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO) in psychology, Business/Office Administration Training from The New Orleans Center for Successful Living (NOCSL), Developing After-School Leaders (DASL) Training, Good-work Net-Work Business Management and Entrepreneurship Workshop, and Small Business Development from Tulane University in New Orleans.  Nanette possesses strong management skills, and she brings her love of children, enthusiasm, initiative, and her creativity into her vision for The Loft.
